Born in 1954 at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, Barbara grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large family—one of eight siblings. Her own childhood hospitalization introduced her to the world of nursing, and she saw the nurses not just as caregivers—but as angels.
Barbara's path to nursing was both personal and powerful. She began as a nurse's aide, gradually advancing to become a Registered Nurse. In a full-circle moment, Barbara had her first job interview while she was still a patient in the hospital.
Barbara's greatest inspiration came from her mother—a woman who taught her to be independent, to work hard, and to always lend a helping hand.
Among her proudest achievements is the enduring love story with her high school sweetheart, now her husband of over 50 years. Barbara is also a talented artist, baker, and dancer.
